Our Director- Fran Pocock

Fran first became interested in Barbershop Harmony when she joined her first chorus in 1979
called County Line Chapter which chartered as a Sweet Adeline Chorus in 1980.
She is a Certified Musical Director and her dream is to take County Connection to a future
regional Contest, gain a score of 600 points and become a master director.  She is an enthusiastic and passionate director and wants all of her chorus members to share her passion for barbershop harmony.
She holds Music Theory qualifications up to Grade 7 and Grade 7 Singing.

Except for a break of a few years when County Line Chapter disbanded, she has been actively involved
in the Sweet Adeline Organisation as a member of Welwyn Harmony and County Connection Harmony.  During her time with Welwyn she was Assistant Director, Tenor Section Leader and held positions on the Committee of Treasurer, Membership Chair, Secretary. She has been a member of two quartets (one competitive),  singing tenor. She was also the Director of Musical Activities for Region 31 from 1996 to 1999.  She is currently the Region’s Director Certification Program Coordinator and Young Singers Foundation Liaison.

Her musical skills are not entirely Barbershop based.  She helped at the Haverhill Music School and sang with the Senior Choir as well as assisting the Choir Master with the younger children to learn their parts.  She has worked with a group of girls aged 11 to 16 years at the Drama Centre in Covent Garden, Cambridge teaching them a cappella singing, they were called the Jelly Babes and sang at various functions around the Cambridge area as well as singing for the Mayor.  Fran also formed and directed a small group of singers in Abington who performed a wide range of music, from English Folk songs to themed music for Spanish and German evenings and, of course, a little barbershop. She also joined a Group at Linton Village College where she sang anything from Andrew Lloyd Webber to Verdi.

Fran has ambitions of starting a Young Womens’ chorus and taking up arranging when she finally retires from work.
